Fufudingshan Shell and Coral Temple

 

A temple built entirely of shells and corals.

SANZHI DISTRICT —The artwork is stunning here but many people are angry that it exists. Given the state of the earth's corals I can't really blame them. Many of Taiwan's religious practices have come under more scrutiny in recent years. Some temples have adapted to these concerns but others have not.  This particular temple honors a Buddhist monk from the Song Dynasty who was a hero for the poor and stood up for injustice.
